Janus: Ghost Stories

A telepresence dance, music and video performance embodying the concept of distributed intermedia, staged simultaneously in Arizona and California.
Dancers in Arizona and California, choreographed by Lisa Naugle, were linked by a two-way videoconferencing system and accompanied by a musician in California. John Crawford created a live video mix that was projected simultaneously in both sites. It consisted of live video of the musicians combined with other images and processed with the Active Space intermedia performance system to create an abstract, painterly scenic environment. The video animation explored body representations, systems of containment and acts of breaking boundaries. Featured in the IDAT ‘99 International Dance and Technology conference at Arizona State University.
Production date: February 1999.
